DEC3 is A College Completion Strategy

Institutional performance and accountability– because higher education is under a microscope and academic coaching has become the new standard. Performance-based funding policies have become the norm in American higher education, with priorities placed on underserved, underprepared students – the students most at risk of dropping out. Your DEC3 academic/ peer coaches are specifically trained to help students reach their educational goals.  With DEC3 comes a variety of 24/7, wrap-around services— including telephonic,web-based and app-based—to reach students proactively and to keep academic persistence  top-of-mind.

The DEC3 difference – a proactive, 24/7 technology platforms to pave the way for student well-being while keeping students focused on their academic goals. Our technology is designed to engage the student body while providing a real-time analytical dashboard for leadership. Student retention and persistence-to-graduation rates impact the bottom-line – and student success coaching is a proven Return-on-Investment.

Denson-EL Centers has partnered with a leader in academic-success coaching. T’Mando Denson-El, is a Board Certified Primary Clinician, leading a highly specialized team of primary care, behavioral and mental health specialists and has developed and implemented coaching services for over 20 elementary school, highschool, middle school, hospital, nursing centers, and community college campuses.

The DEC3 difference – A service developed and administered by a veteran student success coach/ administrator well-versed in  the nuances of implementing initiatives and achieving goals.

Individually tailored academic and peer coaching– “Because Every Student a Journey, Every Coach a Bridge”.

While there are many common barriers to success, each student presents unique and individual challenges. Adult students, returning students, non-traditional students, and distance learners alike are pursuing higher education goals while facing challenges not imagined a generation ago. Today’s students faces record levels of stress, anxiety, and depression along with unprecedented financial burdens and complex relationship issues.

The DEC3 difference – While working with any existing campus resources, our licensed mental health professionals can provide a safety-net for more complex issues and further mitigate institutional risk.

Proactive outreach and communication– because strategically planned touchpoints can promote momentum leading  to the achievement

The Journey To And Through Higher Education Can Be complicated. Some students may experience a phenomenon known as “Summer-Melt” which means their efforts to begin college right after high school, or continue college after semester break, fall short. Other students may be flagged as “Early Alert” indicating warning signs of academic jeopardy.

DEC Homelessness Resources: Case Management

DEC Case management is one of the primary services offered to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD) defines case management as “a range of services provided to assist and support individuals in developing their skills to gain access to needed medical, behavioral health, housing, employment, social, educational, and other services essential to meeting basic human services.” This also includes providing “linkages and training for the patient served in the use of basic community resources, and monitoring of overall service delivery.”

DEC Case Managers work with people and families experiencing homelessness and those who are at risk of homelessness. Our case managers identify households of greatest risk and determine the type of support needed to prevent homelessness. They also help clients develop independent living skills, provide support with treatment, and serve as the point of contact between clients and people in their social and professional support systems. To be successful, DEC case managers are Highly Trained Board Certified Medical Professionals specialized in the right skills and adequate community knowledge.

Homelessness Programs and Resources

Learn how DEC programs and resources help prevent and end homelessness among people with mental or substance use disorders. Men, women, youth, and families living with mental or substance use issues may need treatment, case management, and discharge planning in addition to financial support (e.g., employment assistance, Housing First programs, targeted rental/housing subsidies) to avoid or escape homelessness. Being homeless, no matter how long it lasts, is a life-altering traumatic event that creates major stress in any person’s life, regardless of age.

DEC SUPPORTIVE HOUSING is a highly effective strategy for people in recovery from substance use disorders. Although affordable housing is part of the solution, some people may also need supportive services to maintain housing stability. For that reason, supportive housing combines affordable housing with intensive, voluntary, coordinated services. Under a supportive housing framework, individuals in recovery from substance use disorders who prefer to live in an abstinence-focused environment are able to live independently in apartments or single-family homes in residential neighborhoods, with access to services.

Individuals can also be accommodated under Housing First with shared housing with others who also want to live that lifestyle, and intensive programming and structured service approaches. Services are usually provided in the individual’s rental unit or building, or at a place of their choosing in the community.

DEC RECOVERY ESTATES (HOUSING) model supports Recovery Housing, where people experiencing homelessness can access the affordable housing, services, and the peer-support community they may prefer as they recover from substance use issues. DEC administered in a manner consistent with the principles of Housing First as part of a comprehensive, community wide strategy, Recovery Housing can provide additional options for people who are experiencing homelessness and substance use disorders.
